About the Private Investigation Profession in Ontario

A private investigator is an individual who obtains information for their clients and is paid for the service. There are many different people who may fall under this definition from genealogists to corporate fraud investigators. Private Investigators (“PIs”) in Ontario must be licensed by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario and have to continuously prove that they meet the requirements to hold this licence.

Employees of the KeyNorth Group are fully licensed investigators and the firm is an investigative agency. We are also fully insured. However, licensing is just the minimum requirements under the law. You should ensure that the professionals you work with are competent, experienced and professional, whether the case is a complex fraud or a basic skip-trace. We have decades of experience in the field of private investigations and security; and we won’t take your mandate if we don’t think that we can add value to your situation.

Client Success

Family Law Matters

We have supported numerous clients through divorce proceedings and various family law cases. One client had hundreds of pages detailing money which had been siphoned from her and her former husband’s joint account and spent by her former husband. However, the evidence required professional analysis to assist our client in presenting a clear case in court. Working with our partners we were able to provide a report to our client, which was then used to explain her case to others. We also identified the use of the funds.

Location Services

We are experts in locating individuals both in Ontario and Canada-wide. This service is sometimes referred to as a skip-trace.

We complete this work for both public sector agencies and individual clients. On one occasion we were able to re-unite a sister with her brother whom she hadn’t seen in over 30 years. We provided the information our client needed in a matter of hours.

Background Research

Do you want to check the background of an individual? Maybe it’s a friend’s new partner, a possible new employee,  or the new babysitter? We can provide tailored research, to help you make the right decisions. In one particular matter we conducted research on the background of an individual to look for indicators as to whether he had a violent past, or made threats of violence to other persons.

In another we were retained by an individual to conduct a well-being check on his sister, whom he had not seen in several years.
